CHAPTER 2
Many and varied are the souls who would choose for themselves a life of travel and discovery upon the lesser paths and darkened corners of the world. It is oft a hard and dangerous road to tread, but an adventurous vigour is found in each of Mantica's peoples, with the different races bestowed with distinct abilities and fortitudes to counter the hardships they endure.
Varied also are the reasons for that way of life - from mercenaries seeking wealth, to mages yearning after ancient artefacts, of explorers charting the navigable world and adventurers dreaming of eternal glory in resounding ballads. Regardless the goal, all share in the same vigor to step across the threshold and look upon places that would ever only be told in tales around the homely hearth.

Whilst not all who tread this path are the same - be they difference race, sex or creed - few will choose to embark on the road alone and they are wise in that choice. For it is ofttimes told, "A sole explorer today is tomorrow's lonely corpse".
​
Company can be sought through fellowship of the Adventurer's Guild, that provides not only knowledge of the land, but also contacts to agreeable companions and allies. The Guild takes no stock in the political and racial strife betwixt the peoples of Mantica, it's doors are open to all who vow upon comradeship and the stout defence of friends.
As such, many are the members counted from amongst the Noble Peoples; Elf, Dwarf and Human, who through long times past have had common cause in arms and adventure. It is not exclusive to them alone however and includes healthy numbers of younger and uncommon races; exhuberant Halflings, capricious Elementals, the wild-kine Fauns & Bucca, hardened Gnomes and more unlikely folk yet still.

Gladewalker
Seldom seen beyond the great woods of the world, they act as the silent sentinels of Nature and the elemental Earth. Close kin to the lithe Dryads of the woods but much taller and stronger in build, the Gladewalkers are gifted healers and most formidable warriors.

Naiad
The elemental race of the Naiads reign under the surface of the watery realms of the oceans and great lakes of the world. Silvery skinned and athletically built, they can venture onto land when the need arises however and are keen hunters and active skirmishers.

Salamander
Large and naturally aggressive, the Salamanders are another of the elemental people of Mantica. They are a scale-hided, barrel-chested race whose hot-blooded nature is both figurative and literal, though their elemental affinity does not inhibit a seafaring prowess.

Sylph
The Sylph are known as the spirits of the air and are the last of the core elemental races of Mantica to be described. Often appearing fey and weak to the unaccustomed, they are an extremely agile people, ever-moving and nigh impossible to predict or contain.

The Small Folk

Here are recorded the studied traits and attributes typical of the Halfling small folk, adiminutive races of the world, lesser in size and yet lack nothing in spirit nor stature. Halfling
Slighter in frame and fairer in nature then the Dwarves and Gnomes of the world, the diminutive Halfings are found to be of no less spirit when the need arises. What they may lack as warriors is amply made up for with their mastery of more tactful roles.
